CASE REPORT:

A 20 y/o male student, while playing intramural football, suffered a severe twisting injury to his right knee. He was running hard, and while his foot was planted another player ran into him, causing his trunk to twist. He lost his balance, felt a “pop” in his knee, and fell to the ground. He was in excruciating pain and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.

EXAMINATION:

  • He sees an orthopaedic surgeon that afternoon and he is still in considerable pain with evident swelling and holding his knee in slight flexion.
  • • Positive - Lachman Exam
  • • Positive - Valgus Stress Test
  • • Positive - Anterior Drawer Test

  • What structures are likely injured based on the positive tests above?
