Pelvis and Perineum: Module 1 - Page 5 of 5

Although the perineal membrane itself is not directly visible in the 3D model, its boundaries and associated structures can be identified.

This dense, fibrous membrane spans the urogenital triangle, providing support to the pelvic organs and serving as an anchoring structure for perineal muscles.

Add the perineal body

The perineal body is a fibromuscular node located at the junction of the urogenital and anal triangles. It serves as a central attachment point for several muscles of the pelvic floor and perineum.

These muscles include the superficial and deep transverse perineal muscles, bulbospongiosus, external anal sphincter, and levator ani.

What is the embryological origin of the perineal body?
