The brain is covered by three protective layers. What are these layers? |
The dura mater covering the brain has two parts. What are these parts? |
Normally these layers are tightly opposed to one another. The two layers of the dura mater contain areas of venous blood flow called sinuses. The other coverings include the archnoid mater which opposed to the inner dural layer of the duramater. It is separated from the pia mater by the sub-arachnoid space.
The sub arachnoid space contains both arterial and venous blood flow. The pia mater is a thin covering enveloping the brain and the spinal cord.
Injury to the cranium can potentially cause damage to either the dural or sub-arachnoid spaces.
What are the consequences of bleeding in each of these spaces? |
Consquences of bleeding into these spaces include:
What are is vascular source of the bleeding for each of these spaces? |
