Nerves of the Dorsum of the Foot

The nerves of the dorsum of the foot are small and not identified on the 3D cadaver. See diagram for location of each nerve.
• Superficial fibular nerve supplies sensory on the dorsum of the foot and all digits, except the lateral side of the 5th and the adjoining sides of the 1st and 2nd digits.
• Deep fibular nerve supplies sensory to the skin on the dorsum of the contiguous sides of the 1st and 2nd digits. Additionally, it supplies the extensor digitorum brevis and extensor hallucis brevis.
• Sural nerve supplies the lateral side of the 5th digit and dorsal lateral foot along the 5th metatarsal.
