Deliniation the Popliteal Fossa

Popliteal Fossa – diamond shape depression on the posterior aspect of the knee. Its boundaries are:
Add the biceps femoris muscle which forms the Superolateral border.
Add the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles which forms the Superomedial border.
Add the gastrocnemius muscle which forms the Inferolateral and Inferomedial borders.
The roof of the fossa consists of the overlying skin, superficial fascia, deep fascia, fat, small saphenous vein, and 3 cutaneous nerves.

Contents – popliteal vessels (including the five genicular branches), tibial and common fibular (peroneal) nerves, posterior femoral cutaneous nerve, popliteal lymph nodes.
