Deliniation the Popliteal Fossa

Popliteal Fossa – diamond shape depression on the posterior aspect of the knee. Its boundaries are: |
Add the biceps femoris muscle which forms the Superolateral border. |
Add the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles which forms the Superomedial border. |
Add the gastrocnemius muscle which forms the Inferolateral and Inferomedial borders. |
The roof of the fossa consists of the overlying skin, superficial fascia, deep fascia, fat, small saphenous vein, and 3 cutaneous nerves. Contents – popliteal vessels (including the five genicular branches), tibial and common fibular (peroneal) nerves, posterior femoral cutaneous nerve, popliteal lymph nodes. |
