Now let's examine the left bronchial tree.

Add the left and right main (primary) bronchi.

As you explore each of the following segments, remember to rotate the tracheobronchial tree to fully appreciate its three-dimensional structure.

Add the left superior lobar (secondary) bronchus, which typically gives rise to  four segmental (tertiary) bronchi.
Add the left apicoposterior segmental bronchus, a combination of the apical and posterior segments, often fused on the left side.
Add the left anterior segmental bronchus.
Add the left superior lingular segmental bronchus.
Add the left inferior lingular segmental bronchus. Note that the lingula of the left lung is functionally analagous to the middle lobe of the right lung.
Add the left inferior lobar (secondary) bronchus.
Add the segmental (tertiary) bronchi of the left inferior lobe.
Visualize the entire left bronchial tree, noting the branching patterns and how they differ from the right.
Compare the segmental bronchial tree to the anatomical illustration. Keep in mind that many smaller bronchial branches are not visible in this model. Try to visualize where each of the smaller bronchial segments arise and explore them later in an atlas.
