Why is this valve called the "mitral" valve? What is another name for this valve? |

The mitral valve is named for its similarity to a Catholic bishop’s miter (a ceremonial hat with two pointed flaps). The mitral valve has two leaflets (cusps), giving it a similar shape to the miter. It is also known as the bicuspid valve because of its two cusps. |
